How to use the FSA Pension Annuity Tables

by Peter

fsa_logo.jpegThe Financial Services Authority (FSA) have a website that features pension annuity tables, showing an overview of the providers and examples of the rates you can expect to receive. They are not designed to recommend one annuity provider over another, just to give you a guide as to what is on offer and from whom. They will ask you a series of questions about your individual circumstances to find out which annuity product you would be most suited to. However a note of caution, not all annuity providers share their data with the FSA, especially smaller companies.

Secondly not all annuity quotes can be produced using this method. Some annuities, such as enhanced annuities, require detailed medical information, which cannot be ascertained by asking a few simple questions. Some within the pension industry have criticised the way the site operates, saying that it should only offer information on providers and should do more to encourage annuitants to shop around. Because the format of the FSA tables is similar to money comparison sites, some retirees wrongly assume that the providers at the top of the FSA results offer the very best rate for them.
